Welcome to Inis Oírr, Aran Islands

"Inisheer is the place to go for solitude or, rather, what the Irish call 'cúineas gan uaigneas', which translates as 'solitude without loneliness.' That is what I find, or what finds me, on Inisheer."

Anthony St Clair

The name "Inis Oírr/Inisheer" means "island of the east" - it is the smallest and the most eastern of the three Aran Islands and only 6km from the Clare coastline. This island has a year-round population of 300 rising in the summer months and an area of 2 miles x 2 miles.

  • Try your hand at some kayaking with Enda

  • Browse through the shelves at Pachella & Dara's craft shop and heritage centre - a traditional stone-built, thatched cottage, showing furniture and way of life on the Islands of Aran, from the late middle ages to the 1960's.
